Peacocks and Guinea Fowl

The swimming pool at Mugumo Farm Stay, our home from home when visiting Nairobi.

Giles, Chris's key contact at Cropnuts (Crop Nutrition Laboratory Services Ltd) organised an induction for him which meant we stayed near the office headquarters in Limaru for our first week. We were based at the Mugumo Farm Stay owned by Arnie and Jacqui. It's 30km north west of Nairobi and a stones throw from the laboratories. Arnie and Jacqui were very welcoming and we were immediately overwhelmed by the beautiful gardens surrounded by acres of tea and indigenous forest - home to the Colobus monkey. The farmstay was once part of Kiambethu Tea Farm, which has been in the family for five generations.

And so it was that I found myself surrounded by peacocks, guinea fowl and several dogs, not to mention the monkeys. Whilst Chris spent his days in the office meeting the staff and learning all about the laboratory processes I'd be doing Yoga sessions on the croquet lawn or wandering through the tea plantations up to Brackenhurst for a snack.

Kiambethu is located at an altitude of 2,200m which took some getting used to, particularly whilst walking up and down the hills in the heat.

After six days of acclimatising and being somewhat spoilt by Arnie and Jacqui - who do offer accommodation on AirBNB - it's time to make our way up to Njoro and move into our new home.
